Desert Regional Medical Center is a 385 bed acute-care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and level 2 trauma facility with an innovative , patient centered and evidence-based Rehabilitation Services Department. Our compassionate team provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation,joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, Telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand and lymphedema clinics.
GENERAL DUTIES: The Infection Prevention Practitioner works under the direct supervision of the Infection Prevention Manager at Desert Regional Medical Center. To assure the highest quality of patient care, the Infection Prevention Practitioner is responsible for the following:
Position Summary: ï¿½ Identifies Infection risks to patients and personnel through surveillance ï¿½ Provides teaching pertinent to Infection Prevention. ï¿½ Assists in the updating of all departmental Infection Prevention policies and procedures. ï¿½ Assists in maintaining an effective Infection Prevention program. ï¿½ Supports and assists programs basic to research which involve Infection Prevention. ï¿½ Assists the Infection Prevention Manager with necessary Environmental of Care issues involving Infection Prevention. ï¿½ Assists in monitoring and reporting Department of Public Health required communicable diseases. Services as a hospital resource to nursing and medical staff. ï¿½ Assists in data effectively evaluated and analyzed using sound epidemiological principals as recommended by APIC, CDC, SHEA. ï¿½ Assists in other CORE Measure abstracting as needed. ï¿½ Assists DCQI in representing Quality in Orientation, Medical Staff Committee or Corporate/Regional Meetings.
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES:
ï¿½ Assists in programs with respect to Infection prevention. Assists Infection Prevention Manager in educating house-side staff and makes hospital rounds to assess quality of patient care relative to Infection Prevention. Will act as a resource for hospital teams addressing quality/performance improvement efforts pertaining to Infection Prevention. ï¿½ Assists in orientation and annual update programs for all new employees, new grads, volunteers and nursing students. ï¿½ Participates willingly in hospital wide performance improvement activities and makes recommendations for improvement as it relates to Infection Prevention. ï¿½ Counselï¿½s patients/families/employees/staff regarding implications of infectious disease and associated Infection Prevention practices. ï¿½ Participates and assists in maintaining an effective system for surveillance of hospital acquired Infections as designated by the Infection Prevention Manager. ï¿½ Competently analyzes data, including Core Measure data and reports findings and results to staff, medical staff departments and region agencies. ï¿½ Identifies documents and reports hospital acquired Infections according to Infection Prevention Plan. ï¿½ Identifies and facilitates corrective action for Infection Prevention patient care practices and employee practice problems through quality assessment and improvement activities. ï¿½ Assists in the activities of the Infection Prevention Committee. ï¿½ Communicates Committee activities as necessary ï¿½ Performs and coordinates Committee actions as indicated. ï¿½ Reports communicable diseases as required by local and state health departments. ï¿½ Coordinates testing and reports results for pre-hospital blood and body fluid exposures for emergency medical service personnel as dictated by the Ryan White Act. ï¿½ Investigates exposures of patients/employee to infectious diseases. ï¿½ Communicates with appropriate department supervisors fir appropriate follow up if needed for employees. ï¿½ Takes initiative in keeping Manager and Chief Quality Officer fully informed on work related issues. ï¿½ Reports to work station on a regular basis for scheduled day and time. ï¿½ Answers phones and responds to our customer needs professionally and without complaints.
Required: Required Education/ Training/ Experience: ï¿½ Has knowledge and experience in patient care practices, microbiology, asepsis, disinfecting/sterilization, adult education theory, program administration and epidemiology. ï¿½ Current California Nursing License ï¿½ CIC Certification recommended within 5 years of entry into the profession and maintains certification thereafter
Preferred: ï¿½ Baccalaureate degree preferred
