Inova Schar Cancer Institute is an international center for advanced cancer care and research, serving Northern Virginia, the Washington, DC metro area, and the world beyond. As the flagship location for INOVA Health System, ISCI treats over 1,100 patients per year across all cancer disease sites. Our new Advanced Center for Radiation Oncology and Proton Therapy is an over 100,000 sq. ft. facility. It is one of the premier radiation oncology facilities in the world which features multiple radiation oncology treatment options, including a two gantry IBA pencil-beam proton therapy machine, two Varian TrueBeams, one Varian Trilogy and one M6 CyberKnife treatment unit. The new facility has a two vault HDR suite sharing a new Elekta Flexitron HDR unit and a Canon 40 slice Ultra High Resolution CT. These will be supported by state of the art planning systems; RayStation, Eclipse and Multiplan and Aria patient management system. The new center also includes a state-of-art 3T MRI scanner and a 128 slices dual energy GE revolution CT. We also have an active Brachytherapy program (~300 patients/year) consisting of GYN, prostate and skin HDR, prostate seed implants, Zeiss IORT, Sirspheres and Xofigo.
Directs, coordinates and administers all activities related to the operation of the multi-procedural radiation oncology department. Directs, plans and implements Inova Fairfax Hospital/Inova Schar Cancer Institute business development efforts relating to radiation oncology services. In collaboration with the Director of Physics and the Medical Director, assesses new technologies and services. Responsible for advancing Inova Fairfax Hospital’s radiation oncology programs and services throughout Inova Fairfax’s’ service area by identifying, organizing and coordinating marketing efforts with Inova physician relations and marketing personnel.
Maintains oversight of managers/supervisors assigned to nursing, radiation therapy, proton therapy, and the operations and their areas. Provides direction and management to direct reports and all employees in department. Handles employee relations and staff development for direct reports. Develop goals and manages fiscal activities of the department. Manages department finances, including training staff in accurate code capture, and associated documentation. Oversees the budget, control of salary, non-salary, capital investment and operating expenses, in addition to use of department resources to include supplies and equipment.
Demonstrates effective communication skills and promotes collegial relationships through collaboration with staff, other departments, physicians, outside agencies and the community to meet the identified needs of patients and the organization. Maintains and assists in the growth of The Cancer Care Fund and other related Foundation funds specific to radiation oncology. Manages the professional and clerical staff, including day-to-day supervision, employee relations, and staff development. Represents and provides leadership in relation to the needs of the Inova Fairfax Hospital/Inova Schar Cancer Institute Radiation Oncology Program by participating in system-wide and hospital specific radiation oncology program and planning meetings. Stays abreast of current Radiation Oncology Research, participates and facilitates Radiation Oncology Research as appropriate, and remains current with new technologies and trends in the Radiation Oncology field which has pertinence for physician practice and patient participation.
MBA, Master of Health Administration or Masters of Public Health.
At least 5 years managing a cancer center or radiation oncology program/facility or other health services business facility.
AART or any other Cancer/Oncology professional certification.
Working knowledge of patient clinical needs.
Ability to write clearly and concisely.
Computer knowledge and skills to include the Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to work independently with self-discipline and self-discipline and self-motivation.
A broad understanding of federal and state laws related to the operation of the facility.
Must have proven record of leadership and effective interaction with medical staff in areas of responsibility.
