The Epidemiologist III assists in coordinating all non-clinical aspects of the vaccine preventable disease program including disease surveillance, travel-related immunization recommendations, immunization assessments and special projects.
Oversees the investigation of vaccine preventable diseases in the community, and ensures that disease control interventions are implemented in a timely fashion including school exclusions, chemo-prophylaxis, and active and passive immunization.
Maintains current knowledge of the local and national incidence and epidemiology of VPD, and conducts analyses of statistical data pertaining to VPD as needed. Writes and submits reports for various VPD and immunization programs. Assists with development of surveillance databases.
Works with the Program Manager of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases in maintaining a current manual containing policies and procedures covering non-clinical aspects of the vaccine preventable diseases program in consultation with the Communicable Disease Director.
Works with the Program Manager of the Vaccine Preventable Diseases to research and obtain new immunization related grants, as well as fulfill current grant requirements.
Assists with recruitment and training of other VPD program staff. In the absence of the Program Manager of the Vaccine Preventable Diseases, supervises the work of Epidemiologist I staff.
Assist the Program Manager of Vaccine Preventable Diseases in developing and maintaining the immunization portion of the CCDPH website.
· · Master's degree in Epidemiology or Public Health from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in epidemiology or biostatistics (official transcripts required at time of interview)
· One (1) year of work experience in communicable diseases (CD) control in a public health department, or equivalent experience, including disease surveillance and investigatory work in general CD control or vaccine preventable diseases
· Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
· Position requires travel throughout Cook County for which the employee must possess a valid driver's license and insured vehicle or otherwise provide an acceptable and reliable means of transportation
· Completion of the National lncident Management Systems (NIMS) courses to include: FEMA IS-100, 200, 700, and 800 within six (6) months of employment
· Must be available for emergency response duty
· One (1) year of supervisory or administrative work experience
· Bilingual in English/Spanish

· Effective organizational, written and verbal communication skills. Able to present information orally to both community and health care groups.
· Ability to represent CCDPH as a responsible, informed public official.
