The Public Health Program at Augustana College, Rock Island, IL, invites applications for a full-time tenure-trackAssistant Professor position in Public Health beginning August of the 2019-2020 academic year. Augustana College is a selective liberal arts college of approximately 2,500 students, most of whom live on a wooded 115-acre campus. Rock Island, Illinois is one of the Illinois-Iowa Quad Cities along the Mississippi River, a diverse metropolitan area with 400,000 residents about three hours west of Chicago and 45 minutes east of Iowa City, home of the University of Iowa.
In 2014, Augustana launched an interdisciplinary program in Public Health that engages faculty across campus, and is one of only a handful of liberal arts colleges that offer a Bachelor of Arts in Public Health. Our new colleague will have the opportunity to help build this growing program. Unique features of our program and opportunities for our new colleague include mentoring students through in-depth Public Health internships followed by the creation of an evidence-based community-centered project, engaging students in research, and institutional support for professional meeting participation.
Required Qualification for the position include:
A doctoral degree in a Public Health discipline or a related discipline from an accredited institution is strongly preferred, although ABD is acceptable
Demonstrated excellence in teaching
Ability to teach student-centered Public Health courses, particularly Epidemiology, within the program’s core curriculum
Ability to develop engaging upper-level courses based on the candidate’s field of specialization
A strong interest in advising students and mentoring undergraduate research
An interest in developing and strengthening relationships with campus and community partners
