Under the direction of the Executive Director, Medical Staff Administration and consistent with the policies and procedures of the Yale New Haven Health System Medical Staff Administration Department, the Director is responsible for the day to day management of the functions of medical staff administration at Yale New Haven Hospital and, as applicable, other health system affiliated hospitals. Responsibilities include managing, organizing and supervising the medical staff services functions and maintaining compliance with applicable standards of The Joint Commission, National Committee on Quality Assurance, Federal and State Regulations and the relevant facility Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules & Regulations. Responsible for the oversight, management and work of staff at the New Haven and other sites as directed. Ensures the effective use of resources, staff and functions as a member of the YNHH team as well as the larger YNHHS Medical Staff Administration Department.
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and experienced medical staff services leader to participate in the continued development and expansion of a system-wide medical staff services department.
EDUCATION: (number of years and type required to perform the position duties):
Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, health care administration, business administration or other relevant field required. Master’s degree in health care administration, public health, business administration or other related field strongly preferred.
EXPERIENCE: (number of years and type required to meet an acceptable level of performance)
5-7 years hospital or health system medical staff services experience required including evidence of management of staff.
Must be able to independently plan, develop and implement policies, procedures, programs/services. Strong analytical ability and problem solving skills. Exemplary organizational, verbal/written communication skills; proven experience and skill in physician relations/a ability to perform analyses and make appropriate recommendations; high level of orientation to detail and accuracy; ability to enforce and maintain adherence to established policies and procedure sunder significant pressure; must be highly customer service oriented and be able to work as a team members in a fast paced environment. Thorough knowledge of TJC and NCQA standards relative to medical staff matters. Proficiency in Word, EXCEL and PowerPoint required.
ACCOUNTABILITY: (how this position is held accountable for goals achievement, budget adherence or other areas of accountability)
Responsible to the YNHHS Executive Director for duties as outlined in the position description. Responsible for demonstrating a commitment to the supporting the Executive Director and the Department in the development and implementation of consistent policies, procedures and practice across all YNHHS Medical Staff Administration sites.

Under the direction of the YNHHS Executive Director responsible for the implementation and administration of a wide spectrum of duties having to do with medical staff administration systemwide. Works with medical staff leaders and must be able to translate their needs into appropriate documents and procedures consistent with regulatory requirements to achieve a desired effect and then successfully educate staff and implement such changes. Must be able to assess the extent of tasks needed to be accomplished and milestones that must be reached by certain timeframes to remain always compliant with regulatory standards. Must be able to prioritize, make appropriate staff assignments, motivate staff and ensure detailed follow through to accomplish these goals.
Current certification by the National Association of Medical Staff Services (NAMSS) as a “Professional in Medical Staff Services Management “ or “Provider Credentialing Specialist” is required.
