Ball State University is pleased to invite applications for the position of Department Chairperson in the Department of Nutrition and Health Science. We are looking for an outstanding individual who possesses visionary leadership abilities, management and accreditation experience, and a broad appreciation for the diverse disciplines within our department.
The Chairperson will create and maintain a dynamic, collaborative, inclusive, and supportive environment in the Department of Nutrition and Health Science. The Chairperson plans, directs, and coordinates the academic, operational, personnel, budgetary, and student activities of the various majors, minors, graduate studies, and related programs. The Chairperson provides leadership and vision to foster excellence in scholarship, teaching, and professional service.
The Department of Nutrition and Health Science (NHS) is one of seven academic units in the College of Health at Ball State University. The Department was formed in 2016 by combining the Nutrition and Dietetics programs from the Department of Family and Consumer Science with the Health Science program from the Department of Physiology and Health Science. The Department of NHS offers a graduate degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. Baccalaureate programs within the department include: Nutrition and Dietetics, Health Education and Promotion, Health and Physical Education, Respiratory Therapy, and Radiography.
By combining the nutrition and health science programs, the Department of NHS provides a blend of opportunities that prepare students for not only graduate school, but also a wide assortment of competitive health-related careers. Through traditional and interprofessional education and practice graduates have been employed in careers such as wellness/health educators, registered dietitians/registered dietitian nutritionists, radiographer or respiratory therapist. Additionally, allied health science programs team students with IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, combining academic course work in sciences and patient/client relations with real-world clinical experiences. The department prides in being committed to delivering high-quality academic experiences to prepare students for careers and advanced study in a variety of health-related fields.
Earned doctorate from an accredited college or university in a field related to the academic programs in the Department.
Minimum of five years of experience directing programs, managing budgets, chairing committees, managing personnel, and writing reports.
Successful involvement in scholarly productivity including publications, presentations, grants, or creative endeavors in a field related to the programs of the Department.
Current or recent experience in teaching both undergraduate and graduate students in a field related to the programs of the Department.
Leadership in service work including active participation in a related professional organization.
